Get certified. There are many ways to learn how to get a job in computer repair, including taking classes through your local college or technical school, or online courses like Certified Repair Assistant (CRAs). These courses will teach you a wide range of skills including troubleshooting, maintenance, and basic programming. Be sure that you have all of the required credentials, including at least a high school diploma, before pursuing such an education. Without a degree, it can be difficult to find steady employment, especially if you don’t already have experience in computer repair. Computer repair technicians are often the first to be laid off as companies replace their computer systems with new ones, which can take weeks or months to resolve.

Go to college. An advanced degree in computer repair can be very helpful, especially if you want to pursue a job in a more technical field. It will demonstrate to potential employers that you have the necessary skills for the position. The two most common degrees are Information Systems and Electrical and Computer Engineering, but you can find programs at schools or online that offer courses in a specific area of computer repair.
